Health Services Provided to Tourists by Public Healthcare Institutions in Istria County

County healthcare institutions, based on contractual obligations with the Croatian Health Insurance Fund (HZZO), provide services to domestic and foreign tourists staying in Istria County. In the event of urgent medical assistance, tourists are entitled to healthcare under the same conditions as Croatian insured persons, provided they possess a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Croatian tourists are entitled to healthcare services upon presentation of a valid HZZO card.

Branches of the Institute of Emergency Medicine of Istria County operate clinics that provide care for all emergency patients 24 hours a day, as well as for non-emergency acute patients outside the working hours of tourist clinics or family doctors.

In the case of acute illnesses and conditions that are not life-threatening

Conditions for which you would normally visit your doctor, such as respiratory infections, viral illnesses, fever, minor burns, minor accidents, abdominal pain, or back pain, should be treated by seeking medical assistance from a physician.

Pula General Hospital at Santoriova 24A, Pula, provides treatment for emergency conditions requiring urgent diagnostic procedures or emergency therapy through its emergency care system: integrated hospital emergency admission, as well as emergency clinics in paediatrics, gynaecology, infectious diseases and psychiatry, including laboratory, transfusion and radiological diagnostics.

Hospital departments that do NOT provide emergency examinations: dermatovenereology, physical medicine, nuclear medicine, pathology and cytology.
