Local festivals and gastro events
There is no better way to experience the true spirit of the Riviera than by participating in local events. Besides experiencing the authentic atmosphere and becoming part of the local community, at most events you have the opportunity to try a handful of delicacies and also learn a few new Istrian words.
No place falls behind when it comes to delicious events, from fishermen’s festivals in Funtana, such as the widely known Fešta od Grmali, followed by the Fešta od Sardoni, Fešta od Angurije (watermelon) and Fešta od Pedoći (mussels) festivals in Tar, to the legendary Gramperijada – the potato festival in Kaštelir, and the celebration of sweet Istrian gastronomy in Vižinada – Slatka Istra (Sweet Istria). There is also a plethora of other street food festivals, such as the Tunalicious Festival in Poreč, which places dishes made from local tuna in the spotlight. For eno enthusiasts, an event not to be missed is Vinistra, a showcase of the finest wines in the region. Numerous traditional folk festivities characteristic of each place, such as the Feast of St. Mary the Great (Sveta Marija Vela) in Vižinada, are a great way to experience local culture and tradition.
