Flavours of Poreč Riviera
In the area of Poreč Riviera, Mediterranean and continental Istrian culinary traditions intertwine, shaped under the influence of various historical and cultural customs, in accordance with the specifics of the region. Whether it is fish and seafood, meat or vegetable dishes, the foundation is always the same: quality, fresh ingredients gifted by the sea and the land.
The pride of local gastronomy certainly includes indigenous truffles in various combinations, prosciutto, dishes made from boškarin cattle, game, homemade pasta, as well as highly valued Istrian olive oils.
In coastal areas you will find a rich offer of fish and shellfish from local fishing boats, from white fish and sardines to scampi, prawns, mussels and scallops, while inland there is a greater concentration of family farms with their own production of meat, cured meat products, truffles and seasonal vegetables.
At almost every step you will come across a tavern, restaurant or bistro with traditional delicacies. Meat lovers will enjoy veal under the bell, ombolo and homemade sausages with sauerkraut, while homemade pasta such as pljukanci, fuži, gnocchi or ravioli are indispensable on every menu.
For those inclined towards modern interpretations, there are restaurants whose chefs elevate indigenous ingredients to a new level with creative combinations and culinary techniques.
You can discover the flavours of Istria at themed gastronomic events throughout the year, while local markets and fairs rich in fresh ingredients and homemade delicacies offer a special experience. Authentic flavours and aromas can also be taken home in the form of olive oils, truffles, cheeses, liqueurs or other local products that you will find in numerous souvenir shops.
